Tucked away in a capacious corner space atop a seven story building overlooking Rittenhouse, Salon JKU is an oasis from the busy city with an airy atmosphere shaped by a love of natural rustic beauty.
Its bright lights, penthouse views and earthy colored aesthetics leave guests feeling as if they have truly escaped and found a hidden jewel.
“I wanted to get away from the feeling of a salon. I wanted everything a little out of place, a little bit different. Not too extreme, but just right.
Walls are wrapped with big tree tops that aren’t really fitted to measurement, and the mirrors sit in big chunks of concrete. The look is clean and minimal, but when looking closely, you can see everything has been done with specific attention to detail.” - Johnny Wojtanowicz, Owner.
The shop is a reflection of how John grew up as a child in nature, and what he has become through his years in this profession.
The secluded salon space, situated higher up than a typical walk-in salon would be, is a reminder of the private clientele that John spent the majority of his career working with. There is a calmness of being on a higher floor, and a sense that you are the only one there. His vision is for all the guests to get this same feeling while in Salon JKU.
Another important component for John was for his artists to have enough space to move around their work, with enough light to really see and focus on creating something special.
”With every little attention to our work on bettering, and maintaining healthy, beautiful strong hair, it was important for me to keep the place minimal. Nothing distracting can come between our work.”
